Community Hall

Extending the user experience inside and out.

Responsibilities: Garage Screening Design, Environmental Graphic Design, Interactive Design

The garage screening design extends the natural landscape of the park-like setting onto the garage surface — transforming the garage into a picturesque backdrop inspired by the striking mountainous horizons found in rural Texas. To create the concept, we used three techniques that all added something special to the experience. For the sky we digitally printed perf-look clouds, for the mountains we used facetted louvers to add depth and accentuate shadow, and at the main corner there are kinetic tiles that dance with the wind and focus your attention on the entrance to Community Hall.

With the scene set, we then concepted the entry and interior experience features within the hall. At the foot of the mountains sits a rusty truck, parked outside of a “weathered shack”. The truck acts as signage for the space and signals where to enter, but it’s the familiar Texas bar-like elements, looping western movies and alluring interactive inside that draws you in. To provide employees with a fun opportunity to connect and stay connected we developed an interactive flip-disc display, in the shape of Texas with a motion tracking modes, animations, and announcements.

Project completed while at Reztark Design Studio with HKS. Architecture and Interiors by HKS.
